Welcome to Pack 716

What Is The Purpose Of Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year round family program for boys who are in the first through fifth grades.  Leaders and parents work together to provide a fun and educational program which emphasized citizenship, character development, personal fitness, and self-pride.  The boys join for the fun!  They can enjoy the adventure of outdoor activities, service projects, field trips, skits, and games.  They learn new skills and they experience a sense of belonging as they work with their families, their dens, and their pack.  Pack 716 and its staff are dedicated to creating a great program for all of our boys!

What Do Cub Scouts Do?

Cub Scouts work to earn activity badges that will advance them to the next rank.  These badges can be earned in subjects ranging from sports, to nature, to crafts, to geology, to handyman.  Individual dens schedule field trips to special events to enhance the particular achievements on which they are working.

In addition, the pack sponsors many special events for the scouts.  The calendar attached shows the tentative dates of every event to be held during the 2008~2009 scouting year.  Some of the special events on Pack 716’s calendar are as follows:

  • Our annual Popcorn Sale, to benefit the Boy Scouts of America, as well as our own Pack, begins in September.
  • Pack’s Halloween Party, scheduled for October 25th , 2008, from 6:00-8:00 at the American Legion, is complete with games, prizes, and even a Haunted House!
  • Our Christmas Party, scheduled for Sunday, December 14th, 2008 from 4:00-7:00 at the American Legion.  The party will be highlighted by a visit from Santa Claus!  We also use this time to sponsor a family through the Neighbors in Need Program.
  • The Klondike Derby is a county-wide scouting event to be held January 23th, 2009.  The dens compete with each other in relay races, team building events, and other “cool” snowy events.
  • The Pack’s Blue & Gold Banquet is scheduled for February 28th, 2008 from 4:00-7:00 at the American Legion.  Good food, wonderful entertainment, and loads of fun as well as the cake decorating contest make this a “must do” family event.
  • Scouting for Food is a countywide event held over two Saturdays: February 28th and March 7th 2009 by delivering door hangers to announce our intent to collect nonperishable items for Carroll County Food Bank.  Then on the following Saturday we return to collect the donations.  It is one way in which Scouts serve their community.
  • Ready to test your racing skills!  On March 21st, 2009 from 12:30-3:00 scouts can design and build a pinewood race car for competition in the Pinewood Derby.  And don’t push your “driving” skills to the back burner just yet, because in April, each Den gets to work as a team to compete with their specially designed Pushcart in Pack 716’s annual Pushcart Derby.

While the official pack year ends in May, the fun continues through the summer, with events such as Family Camp Out, Pack Picnic, and a Pack Campfire.
